High and Dry was born from a place of authenticity - an Irish tradition and family business now brought to life by a group of colleagues and friends who want to make a difference.

We're on a mission to breathe new life into how you dry your clothes,
save you money and allow you to be more climate conscious.

We know washing lines are ugly - that's why we've designed a stylish
one, made from premium materials that complements any back garden.
Ours are even fully mobile and fold-able so you don't ever have to look at
it if you don't want to. Hide it round the corner, move it behind a tree or
even just wheel it into the garage or shed when the rain starts.

It's all very simple.

In a world where it's all very static, we're moving forward. You could even
say we're a breath of fresh air.

Meet the Makers

On paper, we are construction engineers and product designers. But in reality, we are just two families from Ireland who were tired of the same old problem: Where do we dry the clothes without ruining the garden?

Like you, we balance work, kids, and the never-ending laundry pile. We loved the freshness of line-dried sheets but we wanted a solution that didn't involve expensive tumble dryers or ugly rotary lines that blocked the kids’ football games.

We knew there had to be a better way. When we couldn't find one, we built it: A line follows the sun when we need it and becomes invisible
when we don’t.

The Lightbulb Moment

The spark for High & Dry didn’t happen in a boardroom, it happened in the family garden. Having overseen the construction of over 3,000 houses for major homebuilders, John noticed a recurring "snag".

New build gardens were getting smaller, but traditional washing lines were
staying big, clumsy, and permanent. Families were frustrated. They wanted space for BBQs and for the kids to play, not a permanent inconvenience taking up the garden.

We Listened to You

We didn’t just guess what you wanted. We packed up our prototypes and went on the road. From Dublin to Belfast, we stood at trade shows and spoke to thousands of you. You gave us one challenge:

"I want to chase the sun, but I want it to vanish when the BBQ starts."  

So, we delivered. It folds from a massive 185cm drying width to just 30cm – literally the width of your old school ruler.
